Breakdown of derivatives of 2,6-di-tert-butyl-p-benzoquinone under electron impact proceeds, in part, through tert-butyl group splitting and, in part, through specific reactions of position 4 substituents. 2. 2,6-Di-tert-butyl-p-nitrosophenol exists as a quinoid form in the gaseous phase, while the phenylhydrazone of 2,6-di-tert-butyl-p-benzoquinone exists as a tautomer of 3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyazo-benzene.
