Abstract: 1 In order to determine the structure of the sulfur dinitromethylides , bond lengths and valence angles of were determined by x-ray diffraction, dipole moments of and were obtained, and electron-density distribution and overlap density for the bonds in these ylides were calculated by the CNDO/2 quantum-chemical method. 2. From these data it was concluded that has a zwitterion structure, that the S-ylide C bond is ordinary, that the S atom is sulfonium, and that the negative charge is delocalized over the whole dinitromethylide group.
