1. Depending on the number and position of alkyl groups, whenα-,β-, andγ-alkyl derivatives of N-nitropyridinium salts react with nitroalkane salts, they form products of nitration and nitrosation of the nitro-alkane anions, aγ-nitroalkylation product of N-nitropyridinium, or a mixture of these products. 2. β-Alkyl derivatives of N-nitropyridinium salts with a 2,2-dinitroethane anion form onlyγ-dinitroethylation products of N-nitropyridinium.
