Abstract:
1. The reduction of fluorotrinitromethane, fluorodinitromethane, and 1-fluoro-1,1-dinitroethane was studied on a dropping mercury electrode. 2. The first step in the electrochemical reduction of fluorotrinitromethane and fluorodinitromethane is stripping of a nitro group. 3. On the polarograms of fluorodinitromethane there are waves corresponding to the reduction of its nonionized form and the anion, and the first step in the reduction of the fluorodinitromethyl anion is a one-electron process, leading to the formation of a dianion radical of fluorodinitromethane.
