1. A series of tetrahydrofuran saturated alcohols (60–65%) and homologs of 1,6-dioxaspiro-(4,4)-nonane (30–40%) was produced by hydrogenation of the corresponding furan unsaturated alcohols in the liquid phase on a skeletal Ni-Al catalyst. 2. When the tetrahydrofuran saturated alcohols are passed over Pt-C in a stream of hydrogen at 250–270°, they are converted to 2,3,5-trialkyltetrahydrofurans in 70–80% yields.
