Abstract:
1. In the irradiation of mixtures of CO and H2 by fast electrons, the basic oxygen-containing radiolysis products are glyoxal, carbon dioxide, and suboxides of carbon. 2. A mechanism is proposed for the formation of glyoxal, consisting of the combination of two carbon monoxide molecules to form bicarbonyl, which then reacts with hydrogen.
