1. The possibility is demonstrated of polymerization and copolymerization of vinyl aryl ethers under the influence of a radical intiator-azoisobutyronitrile. 2. It is shown that in presence of this initiator vinyl aryl ethers can be made to copolymerize with vinyl alkyl ethers. 3. Polymers of vinyl phenyl and vinyl p-tert-butylphenyl ethers, also their copolymers with vinyl ethyl and vinyl butyl ethers, were isolated and characterized. A probable mechanism of their formation is advanced. 4. It is found that vinyl aryl ethers exhibit greater reactivity in copolymerization reactions than vinyl alkyl ethers.
