Abstract:
1. The catalytic action of FeCl3. AlCl3 and BF3(C2H???)2O on vinyl aryl ethers was studied. It was established that catalytic action on the vinyl aryl ether is developed at temperatures between 15* and the boiling point of the ether. 2. Conditions were established for preparation of polymers of vinyl phenyl and vinyl p-tert-butylphenyl ethers which permitted quantitative yields of polymers. 3. Methods are proposed for purification and separation of polyvinyl phenyl ethers which enable isolation of products of various degrees of polymerization. The characteristics of the isolated polymers and their fractions are given. 4. A study was made of the behavior of the low-molecular fractions of polymers of vinyl phenyl ether in the conditions of vacuum distillation. A probable mechanism of their breakdown in these conditions is advanced.
