Abstract: 1. The reaction between glycerol trivinyl ether and ethylene glycol was studied at molar and equivalent ratios (1:1 and 2:3) and between glycerol trivinyl ether and 1,4-butanediol at molar ratio (1:1). 2. Reaction between glycerol trivinyl ether and ethylene glycol and 1,4-butanediol in molar ratio leads to formation of cyclic acetals of the glycols (III) and (XI), the isomeric glycerol acetals (VIII) and (IX) and glycerol triacetal (X). Equivalent proportions of glycerol trivinyl ether and ethylene glycol yielded ethylene glycol acetal (III), glycerol 1,2-acetal (VIII) and a very mind amount of glycerol 1,3-acetal (IX). 3. The formation of cyclic acetals of glycols and glycerol is accounted for by tautomerism of the corresponding acetals.
