Abstract: 1. On the basis of data on the thermal decomposition of hexachloropropene and octachloro-1, 3-pentadiene, some conclusions are drawn about the mechanism of these processes. 2. A mechanism scheme is proposed for the destructive chlorination of halogen-substituted unsaturated hydrocarbons containing a carbon-carbon single bond. The basis of the scheme is the concept of the addition of a chlorine atom at the double bond and subsequent breakdown of the resulting radical at the C-C bond.
