Abstract: 1. It was shown that Tulmazin gasoline can be completely desulfurized by treatment with aluminum chloride (6–10%). When the fact that one portion of aluminum chloride can be used for three successive operations is taken into account it is found that its consumption does not exceed 2–3.5% on the weight of gasoline. 2. It was established that the desulfurization was accompanied by simultaneous isomerization of cyclopentanes into cyclohexanes (the content of cyclohexane hydrocarbons was increased by 8.9% and of n-alkanes into isoparaffins (to the extent of (10–12%). 3. As the result of a two-stage refining process, the octane rating of the gasoline was raised to 71.6 (with 1.5 ml of TEL), i.e. 10 points higher than that of the original gasoline.
