Abstract: This work presents a novel, eco-friendly, transition metal-free method for synthesizing oxa[5]helicenes via visible-light-induced photocyclization of ortho-biarylchalcones of naphthofuran series. It was found that the obtained compounds are highly stable to both UV (365 nm) and visible light (LED420) irradiation in the presence of atmospheric oxygen or molecular iodine.
