Abstract: Recently, the influence of external magnetic fields (EMFs) on gas–solid interface reactions has been the subject of intensive research. This review considers the effects of magnetic fields on heterogeneous catalysis. Topochemical reactions are of primary interest, as they play an essential role in the formation of heterogeneous catalysts, including catalyst synthesis, reduction of deposited metal oxides, and catalyst activation. The influence of EMFs on adsorption processes is examined separately. The review provides examples of studies in which the direct involvement of EMF effects in heterogeneous catalysis was observed. Lastly, the review provides examples of the theoretical understanding of EMF effects from the perspective of spin chemistry.
