Abstract: The reaction between γ-butyrolactone and 3-alkyl-1-ethylaluminacyclopentanes (formed in situ through the Zr-catalyzed cycloalumination of α-olefins with Et3Al) affords 3-alkyl-1-(3-hydroxypropyl)cyclopentanols in yields of 65–70%.
