Abstract: Results of primary importance for the strategy of using an intermetallic compound (IMC) to implement the sought-after electrochemical nitrite reduction reaction (NO2RR) to ammonia were obtained. The use of the Cu3Si IMC electrocatalyst in NO2RR was recognized as promising, as the achieved Faradaic efficiency and ammonia yield rate were excellent, up to 99% at −1.6 V (vs. Ag/AgCl) and >100 μmol h–1 cm–2, respectively.
