Abstract: A new approach to asymmetric synthesis of potentially pharmacophoric hybrid molecules which contain 3- hydroxychromone and indan-1-one structural fragments from available precursors based on the use of cinchonidinederived squaramide organocatalyst has been proposed. The reaction is readily scalable, has a wide scope and allows attaining chiral molecules in up to 90% yield with 89-98% ee. The absolute (S)-configuration of chiral products was proved by the conversion to known levorotatory (S)-1-indancarboxylic acid. Further derivatization of the obtained compounds was also demonstrated.
