Abstract:
New type of tetracationic biocides, glycoluril derivatives bearing four quaternary pyridinium moieties (in turn, containing 4-alkylamino substituents), were synthesized starting from diethyl carbonate and 3-aminopropanol. The microbiological studies (assessed against reference and multidrug-resistant strains from ESKAPE pathogens in both planktonic and biofilm forms) show that these salts exhibit antibacterial activity against all of studied microorganisms comparable to those of commercial antiseptics.
