Abstract: The use of supported intermetallic PdxIny nanoparticles as an efficient catalyst for the synthesis of methanol from carbon dioxide was shown. On catalysts with a ratio of Pd : In = 1 : 1–1 : 2 the optimal performance (rMeOH = 65.3 gMeOH kgcat−1 h−1) and methanol selectivity (SMeOH = 49.4%) were achieved. These characteristics are significantly superior to those of the traditional Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 methanol synthesis catalyst. One of the main reasons of the efficiency of Pd-In catalysts is the formation of In-Pd heteroatomic active sites, the structure of which favors a decrease in the chemisorption energy of CO2 molecule.
