Abstract: The review considers the methods of preparation and the main surface characteristics of magnetic carbon-containing sorbents (MCSs) and summarizes data on the use of MCSs of various origins for the extraction of pharmaceuticals, heavy metals, and dyes from aqueous media. The main factors influencing the adsorption efficiency of MCSs in relation to these pollutants are discussed. It is shown that the extraction of spent MCSs has an advantage over nonmagnetic adsorbents due to their magnetic properties.
