This article discusses non-heteroannulated 1,2,3,4-tetrazines, 1,2,3,5-tetrazines, pentazines and hexazine, except for fused structures with a bridged nitrogen atom. Carbocyclic derivatives of 1,2,3,4-tetrazines, mainly benzotetrazine 1,3-dioxides, are considered. New studies on quantum chemical calculations for compounds of these classes, including those concerning aromaticity, have appeared. The best progress in new synthetic methods has been achieved for 1,2,3,4-tetrazine 1,3-dioxides and 1,4-disubstituted-1,6-dihydro-1,2,3,4-tetrazin-5(4H)-ones. The review covers the literature sources published since 2008.
