Abstract: A novel condensation reaction between 1-benzyl-4,5-dimethylimidazole N-oxide, Meldrum’s acid, and various aldehydes is described. The reaction was applied to a broad scope of aldehydes, including aromatic and heteroaromatic aldehydes as well as aliphatic aldehydes and formaldehyde.
