Abstract: A method for the synthesis of 5,5-difluorosubstituted six-membered nitronates by the coupling of 2-bromo-1,1-difluoroethyl ketones with nitro alkanes is described. The reaction is mediated by 1,8-diazabicycloundec-7-ene and proceeds as a sequence of nitronate anion addition at the carbonyl group and intramolecular nucleophilic substitution of bromine.
