Abstract: The review outlines the methods for the synthesis of cognitive enhancers that are used as drugs that improve the cognitive abilities of healthy people or restore mental health of patients with pathologies. Information about the trials of cognitive enhancers and their effectiveness is summarized. The synthetic routes to these compounds are analyzed. The review focuses on the compounds acting on cholinergic receptors (acetylcholine receptors), namely muscarinic and nicotinic receptor ligands.
