Abstract: 2-Hydroxy-3,5-dinitrophenyl-substituted nitronyl nitroxides (LNN) and imino nitroxides (LIN) were isolated as stable sodium salts NaLNN and NaLIN. The reaction of NaLNN with NaNO2—AcOH affords both NaLIN and products of deeper reduction. The structures of NaLNN, NaLIN, and the reduced substrates were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.
