Dinitrocarbene generated in the electrochemical oxidation of dinitromethylides is inserted at C-H bonds of benzene, substituted benzenes, or cyclohexane, forming the corresponding dinitromethyl derivatives. Interaction of the dinitrocarbene with the fluoride ion under conditions of electrolysis forms fluorodinitromethane.
