Abstract:
The acidic sites of aluminophosphate (AlPO-5) and silicoaluminophosphate (SAPO-5) molecular sieves have been investigated using diffuse reflectance i.r. spectroscopy, temperature-programmed desorption (t.p.d.) of NH3, and catalytic activity in the cracking of cumene and oligomerization of ethylene. The results are compared with those obtained for HZSM-5 and HY zeolites. It is concluded that these zeolites can be arranged in the following decreasing sequence of Brönsted acid site strength: HZSM-5 > SAPO-5 > HY ≫ AlPO-5.
