Abstract: The process of hydrogenation of a mixture of aromatic hydrocarbons (benzene, ortho-, meta- and para-isomers of xylene, ethylbenzene, and biphenyl) on a Pd catalyst modified with nickel and chromium (Pd, 0.12 wt%, Ni, 3.8 wt%, Cr, 4.3 wt%) has been studied. The influence of steric factors on the reaction kinetics is investigated. It is shown that the presence of alkyl substituents results in a decrease of the reaction rates. Unlike substituted benzenes, the kinetics of hydrogenation of benzene and biphenyl is not hindered by the effects of the alkyl groups. The order of activity is as follows: benzene > biphenyl > toluene > ethylbenzene > m-xylene > p-xylene > o-xylene.
