Abstract:
Chapter 5.09 describes the chemistry of both monocyclic and benzo-fused 1,2,5-thiadiazoles over the period 2007–18. The Chapter is closely related to the previous Comprehensive Heterocyclic Chemistry issues CHEC(1984) (vol. 6, p. 513), CHEC-II(1996) (vol. 4, p. 355) and CHEC-III(1996) (vol. 5, p. 516). New methods for the ring synthesis including the formation of chiral 1,2,5-thiadiazolidine 1,1-dioxides from aziridines and diaziridines, and fused 1,2,5-thiadiazoles from 1,2,5-oxa- and 1,2,5-selenadiazoles are reported. The transition metal-catalyzed addition of various substrates to 1,2,5-thiadiazole 1,1-dioxides led to 2,3-dihydro[1,2,5]thiadiazole-1,1-diones in high yield and with high enantioselectivity. Important applications, especially in the field of organic photovoltaics are described.
